Review: Roma – Parco della Musica “With you Armenia” (OperaClick)

(Translation) Excellent performance on away of La Scala Philharmonic, which was able to create dynamic ranges of great drama, compact in the string section, of confident and powerful sounds in the winds; the performance of Symphony no. 8 ny Antonin Dvorak was excellently managed: the sounds found for the second and the fourth movements show great flexibility and epic inspiration. Daniel Harding conducts well: the gesture is clear and communicative, the timing choose is right (especially Dvořák and Kačaturjan), the harmony with the orchestra is optimal. A grest classic opens the program: Piano Concerto No. 3 by Ludwig van Beethoven, in which the conductor moves quickly, respecting the proportions between the parties and avoiding to homogenize a writing of sharp contrasts. The piano is entrusted to Alessandro Taverna that seems to prefer a reading more linked to the Mozartian roots of the opera: the sound is almost always very clean, rapidity in the execution of virtuoso passages in which lurk very few imperfections, regularity of tempo that at times gives way to a refined purity of sound. As an encore, Taverna offers the Fugue from the Variations on a Theme of Telemann by Max Reger. To close the program, a homage (indeed rather skimpy) to the cause of the evening, the short stretch from Masquerade Waltz by the composer of Armenian descent Aram Kačaturjan, extremely catchy and used in several film productions.
